I’m a self-published author and an online publisher, with a passion for reading, blogging, creating and sharing content. But that’s not how I started out.
In 1995, I dropped out of a PhD fellowship in molecular biology to do a course in journalism. Since then I have been writing content in one form or another.
Because I was never interested in mainstream media, I first started writing for magazines that covered developmental and environmental issues, like Humanscape and Down to Earth. I also worked for the Center for Science & Environment (CSE) as a reporter for their Green Rating Project.
Around 2001, I discovered online publishing and published my first website, Making India Green, which was featured in Digit Magazine.
After that, I worked on creating award-winning websites, newsletters, blogs, email courses and ebooks, and been interviewed for my expertise in writing, blogging, social media, digital marketing, women’s leadership, and entrepreneurship.
In 2004, when blogs first became available as tools for online publishing, I quickly adopted what I saw as a powerful technology to publish content, and purchased the Blog Brandz domain. I believed that blogs would soon become essential tools for corporate PR and online marketing.
Ten years later, I founded my social media agency with the same domain so I could use the power of blogs and social media to help my clients engage better with their customers online.
Today, Blog Brandz provides social media marketing services to organisations that need to build communities and nurture loyal customers online.
Along the way, I acquired Diplomas in Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations, a Certificate in Digital Marketing from Columbia Business School, as well as Social Media Certification (CSMMP™) from Digital Vidya, and in Certificates in Travel Writing and Travel Journaling.
Over the years, my content-based approach to marketing has created millions of page views and thousands of leads for my client’s and my own businesses. I’ve also had the good fortune to be listed among the top Social Media Experts to follow and the top 25 Digital Marketing Experts in India.
I am passionate about inspiring and empowering Indian women to look beyond their limitations and live their best lives. To that end, I’ve written a number of books, and publish blogs like Naaree.com (one of the top women’s magazines in India).
My travel blog, AhoyMatey.blog, is a family travel blog with a focus on responsible and sustainable tourism. I’m also a member of the Professional Travel Blogger’s Association and the International Travel Writers Alliance.
